A Newbies guide to the some of the Earth Alliances

*Clown dressed in clowning outfit, complete with squirty flowers, frizzy orange & lime wig, size 47 lead tipped boots and baggy trousers, escorting a young person who has a little notebook in hand taking notes.....*

"So you've got your brand spanking new country, and you've played a bit of tourney. You've read some of the complete bollocks on AT, and decided to try your hand at Game 1A with some trepidation, as most of us who post on AT don't necessarily cover ourselves with glory most of the time.......

"Let me take you on a little tour of some of the Alliances."

*takes newbie to a large map, and starts to point to an area divided into regions*

"Why are you wearing that stupid outfit?"
"All will be revealed in time, young person. Now, you see this region there?"

*Points to a large section of the map in the corner of Earth*

"Yes."
"Those are the lands of Moral Decay, known as MD around AT"
"What's AT?"
"The Alliance Talk board, where most of the alliances do business, talk trash to each other, and generally provide a forum for people to chat"
"Oh, ok"
"Now do you see this area?"
"Urr, yes"
"Ok, that's MD. Arguably the most powerful Alliance in Earth."
"Ohh, they sound good"
"Well yes and no. They are powerful and have good leaders. But they're a little bit secretive and they tend to inhibit individualism. Lots of MD drones out there."
"Hmmm, ok"

*Points to another large section*

"Here we have Arrow. Another powerful alliance, but they are pretty quiet, except when you irritate them."
"What happens when you irritate them?"
"They hammer the snot out of you"
"Ahhhhh....."

*Points to a section of the map covered in trees*

"These are the tree hugger alliances. Mainly populated with hippies and dopeheads who although they can fight tend to try to chase the networth titles. SOL, Omega, TIE, Legion, New Monsters, Avengers fall into the alliances....Some loudmouths on AT in the individual alliances who post on AT, otherwise they too are quiet."
"Tree huggers, eh? What about that section with the pirate flags on it?
"Well that's LaF."
"Who?"
"La Famiglia. They are networth title chasers, but they a have a bit of a rep for staying out of wars, and occasionally one or other of their members gets caught cheating."
"Hmm, don't want to pick up any bad habits... What about those people all working out over there?"
"You mean SoF. Survival of the Fittest, name says it all. Fighting alliance."
"Are there lots of fighting alliances?"
"There are a few who are, and a lot who think they are."
"Who is that?"

*Newbie points to area with elevens all over it"

"hehehe, LCN. LaCosaNostra, its a standing joke on AT that whenever people rank alliances they often put LCN as 11th"

"Here's UCN. Big, powerful alliance but their leader's a bit iffy.

"Well I'm a bit biased, and I wouldn't want to influence you" *smirk*
"Ok. What about all those?

*Newbie points to lots of tiny areas all clumped together*

"Those are the clans. Small alliances, usually a bunch of friends who play together. They're essential to Earth, providing the feeding grounds for the larger alliances."
"What's the different between a clan, and an alliance, Mr Clown?"
"Two things, leadership and size. Good leaders and more than 30 or so members and your getting to be an alliance, you can be smaller if you have very good players and good leaders. Few and far between, those are though.

"Now if you look here, you can see the mid-range alliances. Not big enough yet to be powerhouses in Earth, but big enough not to get pushed around. Have about 50-100 members. AoD, IX, Ragnarok and Rage, are examples of these types of alliances."
"What about that smouldering ruin split in two?"
"The sad tale of HAN. Used to be a powerhouse in the game, but now split into two much smaller alliances."
"And this other one?"
"Camelot. They too used to be a power, but severe internal strife has hurt them, and a lot of their experienced players."

"So what are looking for in an alliance, young person?"
"Well Mr Clown, I'd like to be in an alliance that is big enough not to get pushed around, but not so big that I won't feel like I'm an important member of it. That way if I do well I can perhaps get given the oppotunity to lead a team maybe, in a few resets."
"Go on....."
"Well, I like fighting and hitting people, so those tree huggers sound out, and I don't want to be in too big an alliance, so all the powerhouses are out. But most of all I want to have fun."

Looks at the map through a window and coments before they leave.

VH:"Hey guys what about that black area of the map"
Clown: "Well that happens to be the dark valley. Alot of single countries form this area."
VH:" I know that but that's where alot of you big alliances and small clans came from. Earth people originally started out in a valley. during the age of unification as we call it here in Earth, people started making alliances with other countries throughout the game. Then in the middle of the first reset the first clan was formed. This clan grew rapidly and more unified and that's how they got started. One of the first clans happened to be HAN"

Clown: "Yeah I know they broke up completely"

VH:"Wel they started to crumble when a much smaller clan called ARROW got in two major wars with this alliance and won. After that internal strife began and groups formed within the clan. Eventually there were only two groups left. One group was loyal and the other group rebels. At some time still not certain the leader of the rebels started one of the first silent wars or blackout wars. This worked and han broke up because of it. After that a new form of warring became very familiar. These blackout wars are very common today but are not used as often as today to prevent big alliance members from getting the idea to use it."

Clown: "thanks kid. you look like a up and comer. good luck now get the hell off the Clown University Grounds and go back to leading you Veteran Hunters clan"
